Program Description:
Perinatal Mood Disorders have been called “the most common complication associated with childbirth”.  In fact, up to 20% of new mothers will experience a Perinatal
Mood/ Anxiety Disorder.  Although relatively common, few families are educated on the symptoms and treatment options for Perinatal Mood Disorders.  This, combined
with the strong stigma associated with maternal mental health, often prevents families from seeking and obtaining the help they need.  When left untreated, the sequel
often unfolds into lifelong, chronic anxiety/depression.  The children of depressed mothers often fail to thrive and development along cognitive and behavioral
milestones frequently lags.  Prevention and early intervention can reduce suffering for the entire family.  Perinatal Mood Disorders are treatable yet there are few
medical/ mental health clinicians who specialize in them and there are few providers who routinely screen.  This training will prepare health care professionals to
properly assess and diagnose and to provide appropriate treatment for women suffering with mood/ anxiety disorders during pregnancy and postpartum.

Program Goal:
The goal of this two-day training event is to prepare medical and mental health clinicians to screen, assess, diagnose, and treat Perinatal Mood/ Anxiety Disorders.
Participants will receive a "certificate of completion" from the Arizona Postpartum Wellness Coalition, an affiliate of Postpartum Support International.

Training objectives:
At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:
•        Assess prenatal and postpartum mood disorders.
•        Assess prenatal and postpartum risk factors.
•        Recognize and differentiate between prenatal and postpartum depression, anxiety, panic, OCD, and psychosis.

Women's Emotional Health Across the Lifespan
featuring Christina G. Hibbert, Psy.D.
Women are no doubt unique when it comes to emotional and mental well-being. From birth, women’s brains show
distinct differences that become contributing factors to their emotional health. As young women develop and are
flooded with hormones, these differences become even more striking, often initiating life-long emotional concerns.
This program will examine women’s mental and emotional health across the lifespan starting with teens, moving
through early adulthood, childbearing years, perimenopausal years, and finally the later years of a woman’s life. The
program will discuss common emotional disorders at each stage of life, along with the contributing factors for these
physiological and psychological disorders, focusing on at least three disorders for each age range -- including
depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders and perinatal mood disorders. Treatment options and barriers to
treatment will be identified. Practical strategies for overcoming the emotional issues specific to women during various
life stages will be presented. This program is aimed at the beginner to intermediate skill level and is an eye-opening
workshop for not only practitioners but for women of all ages.
